Continuing on from the original film, Taeyeon and Seohyun were in charge of the voice acting for Margo and Edith in ‘Despicable Me 2’. The oldest, Margo, who nagged and frugally took care of her younger sisters, has already greeted adolescence with heartaches over her first love. Edith had grown into a tomboy, learning all sorts of sports and martial arts. When asked one thing, Taeyeon and Seohyun would exchange a bundle of chatter. Despite the passed time, like the unruly sisters in Despicable Me, the Taeyeon and Seohyun met 3 years later through ‘Cine21’s’ magazine were still bright and innocent girls.
Q: You’re taking part in the sequel after the first film.
SeoHyun: I used to think, ‘We’re going to do the next series, too!’, so it was really nice when they called for us again. Edith had become an even more mischievous girl.
TaeYeon: Wouldn’t the audience dislike the change in an unchanged character’s voice? Margo fell in love and became more mature.
Q. What do you think about guys like Margo’s first love, Antonio?
TaeYeon: He’s a bit far from my ideal type. (laughs) I wish he’d be less greasy. When Antonio’s hair flutters, his flirtiness and charms also flies with it.
Q. Margo and Edith’s appearance has decreased a lot.
SeoHyun: It’s a pity. However, the significance of being able to [take part in the] ‘Despicable Me’ series is greater.
TaeYeon: I don’t know if it’s because she got a little older, but Agnes really talks a lot! (laughs) There’s a lot of appearances by Lucy as well. Ahjumma, you’re mean~. (laughs) *ahjumma=middle-aged woman
Q. It seems the daughters don’t really welcome their new mother well.
TaeYeon: No. I’m just kidding. (laughs)
SeoHyun: Now, wouldn’t life get better for the family since Lucy will put the kids to sleep on time, make them food, and bathe them well?
Q. What kind of reaction did your other members have when they found out you would be dubbing again?
SeoHyun: They all really liked it. Tiffany unnie said she’d come to today’s preview. Sunny unnie said she’d bring her nephew. They really liked when the minions came out to the airport the day we were leaving the country for our world tour.
TaeYeon: They all really liked it when we watched the subtitled version, before our dubbing.
SeoHyun: But they like Agnes the most. I’m sad! (laughs)
Q. What’s the main part in voice acting for Margo and Edith?
TaeYeon: There can’t be a big difference from the first movie. Because the character is young, it was difficult trying to sound like a child’s voice. Margo now experiences a heartbreaking first love, and disobeys her dad. I’m gaining an attachment towards her because it seems she’s slowly becoming like me. (laughs) I think that’s why I showed myself more a bit comfortably.
SeoHyun: There was a time where I wanted to become a voice actress when I was younger. I think my experience, playing around, imitating the characters in cartoons, naturally affected it. While studying the character by myself, I thought a lot about what kind of voice she would speak in. Because it’s a young role, a boy’s voice, that isn’t too feminine, was also needed. When recording, I wrinkled my face similar to Edith’s.
Q. If you were given the opportunity to play another character, who would you play?
SeoHyun: Agnes! I want to play the role of either a really young child, or a really old grandmother. I think I would be able to do well.
Taeyeon (to Seohyun): Don’t you think it’d be difficult for another character as cute as Agnes to come about? I want to try Lucy’s role. I think it would be more comfortable [to play] than a young role.
Q. What would be the point of focus for ‘Despicable Me 2’ if you were to choose one?
TaeYeon: We each did the voices for another character, other than the ones we were in charge of. They are characters who pass by quickly. But try looking for our hidden voices~.
SeoHyun: If I was to give you a hint, I’m a character who appears when Gru is reminiscing. It’s a movie that all generations can identify with, so I hope everyone would watch it with their family.
TaeYeon: The music is really nice, too. It’s good to go with friends, too. Music they play in clubs come on. (laughs)
